You Should use an SPF to protect your skin against the harmful effects of UV light which include:

Loss of elasticity and therefore premature aging.

Over exposure to UV light can enhance the development of skin cancers.

Exposure to UV Light Can Reduce the effectiveness of our immune system, reducing our defences causing diseases and disorders eg. Coldsores

As we age the amount of melanin (pigment) in our skin reduces. Melanin protects our skin and so our natural protection decreases with age.

Our number of Langerhans cells decrease as we age giving us less natural protection from the sun.

UV exposure will cause dehydration of the skin. We will experience depleted amounts of hyaluronic acid and along with a compromised surface layer of our skin this will lead to lack of firmness and plumpness. We also have lower amounts of lipids in our skin, which makes it more difficult for our skin as we age leading to lines and wrinkles. Avoiding sun exposure will help but also the use of moisturisers, peels and exfoliants. We recommend Cliniccare Refresh range to help lock in low molecular weight hyaluronic acid.

Direct sun exposure has a negative impact on collagen fibres causing cross links to be formed making skin look older and more leathery in appearance.

Sun cause inconsistencies in melanocytes in the skin and we get pigmentation spots on the skin causing uneven pigmentation.

We recommend the use of SPF 30+. Cliniccare have 2 spf to choose from.
